My dad also has stage 4 melanoma and is terminally ill, too. Right now, he's in hospice care at our house. The best thing you can do is hold the person's hand and spend as much time with them as possible. We used to play little games together and read together, but now he's too sick to do that.
Do anything that would make the person feel at home. Do not act condescending (obviously) when the person asks you for a drink of water or something else.
I am very sorry about your mom, and I sincerely hope you and your loved ones will make it through this tough time.
